With the help of volunteers from the League of Women Voters of Indianapolis, approximately 178 new citizens registered to vote following a naturalization ceremony at Carmel’s Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts.
During the ceremony, 222 people from 48 countries took the Oath of Allegiance to become U.S. citizens. About 80% of the group registered to vote afterward, according to Carmel center spokesperson Scott Hall, extending the celebration into an act of civic participation.
